Westborough data storage firm secures patent

ExaGrid Systems of Westborough said it’s been awarded a new patent by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, which will help the company advance its adaptive deduplication technology.

The patent, known as a the “Method and Apparatus for Content-Aware and Adaptive Deduplication,” is used to help avoid unnecessary processes that result in lengthy data backup windows, according to a company statement.

Meanwhile, the company, which considers Hopkinton-based IT storage giant EMC its largest competitor, said it recently added it’s 2,000th customer, a “huge accomplishment,” according to CEO Bill Andrews.
