Assumption appoints sports business advisory board

Assumption College has put together an advisory board made up of national sports executives to help shape and grow its recently launched Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree concentration in sport business and leadership, the college announced on Wednesday.

The 10 member National Advisory Board for Sport Business Leadership features recognized sports organization leaders such as former Red Sox general manager and current executive vice president of baseball operations for the Baltimore Orioles, Dan Duquette; Notre Dame head football coach Brian Kelly; and assistant vice president and athletics director at George Mason University, and member of the NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Championship Committee Thomas O’Connor.

“Assumption College is incredibly fortunate to have a powerful and highly esteemed advisory board that facilitates our distinctive, innovative Sport Business and Leadership program through their knowledge, networking and vast sport business acumen,” said Assistant Provost J. Bart Morrison, associate professor of business studies. “The board members have each been instrumental in developing the program’s curriculum, facilitating and shaping our practicum experiences, and establishing strong mentoring relationships for our students.”

Launched this fall with an initial class of five students, the Sport Business and Leadership program emphasizes sport-related contexts in business through a 13-course curriculum (36 credits) that includes a required hands-on internship, according to Assumption College.

Also serving as members of the board are:

• Daniel Burger, strategic advisor to Ripken Baseball and board member of The Base;

• Jason Kosow, chief financial officer of New England Baseball Operations;

• Robert Lewis Jr., president and founder of The Base;

• Josh Mora, program director of sports marketing and media at Full Sail University;

• Allyce Najimy '86, executive director of The Foundation To Be Named Later in Boston and Chicago;

• Jonathan Reinsdorf, (advisory committee chair) president of FroogaliT and partner of Stonegate Alliance; and

• Dr. James Samels of The Education Alliance.
