Ameresco completes two landfill conversions in Calif.

Framingham-based energy efficiency and renewable energy company Ameresco Inc. joined with local California officials and energy industry leaders last week to commemorate the completion of two landfill gas-to-energy projects (LGTE), the company said.

On Thursday the company was marked the completion of its 4.3 megawatt (MWe) LFGTE project at the Forward Landfill in Manteca, Calif., and held a similar event Friday at the Vasco Road Landfill in Livermore, Calif. upon the completion of a second 4.3 MWe LFGTE project, it said.

Ameresco said its LFGTE facilities divert landfill gas through extraction wells and pipe it to a landfill gas-to-energy plant, where it is cleaned before specialized engines convert it to electricity for sale to the electricity marketplace. The LFGTE facilities also help to improve greenhouse gas compliance and provide revenue for landfill owners while providing end users with a clean, renewable option for their energy, it said.
