Health foundation announces $350K in local grants

The Health Foundation of Central Massachusetts has announces five grants to support a range of projects throughout the region — all of which are expected to improve the health of the area population.

A total of $350,000 has been awarded from the Health Foundation’s Activation Fund, which is meant to boost capacity among the region’s health care organizations, according to a statement.

“Each of these grants addresses a different problem, but all of the projects are working to improve some aspect of the health of our region,” Dr. Jan Yost, president and CEO of the Health Foundation, said in a statement.

The recipients and awards are as follows:

-Community Health Connections of Fitchburg; $100,000 to improve access to primary care by hiring new clinical staff;

-Edward M. Kennedy Community Health Center; $50,000 to expand optometry services in Worcester;

-RCAP Solutions Inc. of Worcester; $60,000 to support initiatives to boost compliance with the federal Safe Drinking Water Act;

-GVNA Healthcare Inc. of Gardner; $99,000 to address the high rate of smoking among pregnant women Gardner and smoking prevention among young women;

-Worcester State University; $42,400 to help support the goals of Worcester’s Community Health Improvement Plan, in partnership with the Worcester Division of Public Health
