Worcester County job gains: 6,000 year over year

Employers in Worcester County added more than 6,000 net jobs between September of last year and last month, part of a nearly 49,000-job gain statewide, according to data from the Patrick administration.

A report released Tuesday by the Massachusetts Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development (EOLWD) said Greater Worcester gained 5,400 within the 12 months, even though it lost 200 between August and September of this year.

Meanwhile, North Central Massachusetts gained 700 jobs over the 12 months, thanks to a 1,200-job gain from August to September.

The Framingham area saw a gain of 4,300 jobs over September 2013, a jump of 2.7 percent. From August to September, the area saw a small jump of 500 jobs, or 0.3 percent.

Last week, EOLWD said Massachusetts gained 9,400 jobs in September over August, although the unemployment rate ticked upward 0.2 percent to a seasonally adjusted 6 percent. The national unemployment rate is 5.9 percent.
