QCC wins grant for new downtown site

Quinsigamond Community College has received a $300,000 grant from one of Worcester’s top private foundations for the school’s new downtown Healthcare and Workforce Development Center, QCC announced Monday.

The college said the money from the George F. and Sybil H. Fuller Foundation will go toward furniture, fixtures and equipment for the new 72,409-square-foot facility, which will be dedicated Wednesday morning in an outdoor ceremony. Classes at the site, the former Telegram & Gazette building, began last month.

The center houses all of QCC’s nursing and allied health programs as well as workforce development programming, including accelerated, contextualized health care and biotechnology programs, as well as adult basic education and English as second language. The site will be able to hold up to 2,000 students, the school said.

Wednesday’s grand opening ceremony will begin at 9 a.m. on Franklin Street. It will feature the state’s secretary of health and human services, John Polanowicz.
