Unemployment rate flat as Bay State added 1,200 jobs in Oct.

The state unemployment rate remained unchanged at 6 percent in October as Massachusetts added 1,200 jobs, the Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development (EWOLD) said Thursday.

Year over year, the unemployment rate has declined 1.2 percent, as Massachusetts has added 52,600 jobs — most of them in the private sector, according to EWOLD, which cited statistics from the federal Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Sectors that added jobs in October included information services, which saw employment increase 2 percent over September; construction (1.1 percent); and education and health services (.1 percent).

According to EWOLD, an estimated 211,000 Massachusetts residents were unemployed in October, out of a labor force of 3.5 billion.

BLS also revised September job estimates to a gain of 7,800. That’s compared with the previously reported figure of 9,400.
