Sturbridge social service agency to change name

A Sturbridge-based nonprofit that serves the developmentally disabled is changing its name next month to match a broader mission.

Rehabilitative Resources (RRI) will become Venture Community Services Inc. as of Jan. 2, the organization said in a statement. RRI said it’s expanding its mission to include autism-related services, training, children’s services and other community-based supports “for individuals and families who are struggling to get the help they need,” CEO Mike Hyland said in the statement.

The name change is part of an agency-wide rebranding initiative and coincides with RRI’s 40th anniversary in 2015. In 1975, the agency was launched with just two group homes. It now employs 670 and is one of the largest employers in the Sturbridge area, it said.

In a recent letter to members of the community, Hyland said, “Reintroducing ourselves defines our continued growth as we begin offering” the additional services.
