ReWalk teams with Spaulding Rehabilitation
Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital in Boston is developing an exoskeleton training program using the systems made by ReWalk Robotics of Marlborough.
The Spaulding team has completed basic training on the ReWalk system, which is a wearable robotic exoskeleton that provides powered hip and knee motion to enable individuals with spinal cord injury to stand upright and walk.
The hospital is pursuing advanced certification for the program, a statement today from Spaulding said. The hospital targets early 2015 to enroll qualifying patients with spinal cord injury in a training program.
“At Spaulding we are always pushing to merge the most innovative technologies with the care we provide. Incorporating the ReWalk device into our clinical pathways is an exciting initiative that we hope can greatly benefit the communities we serve,” Robert McCall, vice president for inpatient rehabilitation at the Spaulding Rehabilitation Network, said in a statement.
ReWalk, which also has offices in Israel and Germany, offers the only FDA-cleared exoskeleton systems in the United States. Spaulding will be using the company’s rehabilitation model.
