Shrewsbury lakeside restaurant 'temporarily closed'

The future of the waterfront restaurant Buca di Beppo in Shrewsbury is unknown after the restaurant closed its doors Monday.

It will be “temporarily closed,” according to a letter sent to the Shrewsbury Board of Selectmen by Marjorie Untalan, licensing manager for Planet Hollywood International.

The letter, dated Jan. 19, states that the restaurant “will be temporarily closed” effective that date. It continues: “In the meantime, we are determining business options for this location.”

Planet Hollywood International is the parent of Buca Inc., which owns the restaurant chain.

No further information was yet available regarding the reasons for the decision, the number of restaurant employees affected, or what the future for the restaurant and location might be.

Buca di Beppo opened about four years ago on Route 9, overlooking Lake Quinsigamond. The location had previously been a Vinny T’s, also owned by Buca Inc. Planet Hollywood purchased the Buca chain in 2008.
