Waters Corp. celebrates lab opening in China

Milford-based Waters Corp., a manufacturer of laboratory instruments, on Wednesday announced the opening of its Joint Open Laboratory in Beijing.

Outfitted with Waters’ chromatography and mass spectrometry technologies, the analytic laboratory will be jointly operated by Waters and the Chinese Pharmacopeia Commission (ChP), according to a company statement. It is expected to serve as one of China’s national technical support centers in the field of Chinese pharmaceutical standards, Waters said.

“Our cooperation will meet the needs of ChP’s development, while also responding to the demands of even further enhancements to pharmacopeia standards and improved public drug safety,” Secretary General Zhang Wei, of the ChP, said in the statement.

Waters celebrated the opening of the lab in a recent inaugural ceremony in Beihing, along with Chinese government officials and industry professionals.

Focus areas at the lab include in-depth research of pharmacopoeia standards (pharmacopoeia refers to drug-making standards published by government entities and other authorities); development of testing methods, methods of validations and basic and advanced technical training, according to Waters.
