New England Peptide to expand in Gardner

Biomedical firm New England Peptide (NEP) will expand its Gardner facility to create additional research and production space, the company announced Tuesday.

The company, in business since 1998, will expand its facilities by 12,500 square feet. The new space will allow NEP to “substantially” reduce its production time of peptides, a piece of protein used in the biomedical research industry by such organizations as Pfizer and the Dana Farber Cancer Institute.

The company also announced that it intends to employ an additional three to five people a year over the next five years. The company currently employs approximately 43.

The loan for the expansion was financed through Fitchburg-based Rollstone Bank & Trust.
