Mass. teams with Conn., R.I., on clean energy

Massachusetts will partner with Connecticut and Rhode Island to explore new clean energy resources and natural gas capacity options to address the region's high energy costs and demands.

After meeting over the weekend in Washington, D.C., with New England governors to discuss energy, Gov. Charlie Baker said Wednesday that the three states would be partnering with electric distribution companies to issue a request for proposals for new clean energy resources.

Baker also directed the Department of Energy Resources to file a request with the Department of Public Utilities to begin the process for considering ways to pursue new natural gas contracts that could improve the reliability of gas supply to the region, and lower winter heating costs.

National Grid recently signed up as co-developer on a project to expand the capacity of natural gas pipelines along existing rights of way from states like Pennsylvania to improve the supply of natural gas to the region.
