Home buyers braved snow in February

More single-family homes were placed under agreement in February than in February 2014, according to the Massachusetts Association of Realtors (MAR).

It was the 23rd month of year-over-year increases out of the last 24, the organization said.

There were 3,066 pending sales in the state in February, compared with 2,987 a year earlier. The median price in February was $317,500, 7.6 percent higher than the median of $295,000 in February 2014.

Under a pending sale or one “under agreement,” a buyer and seller agree on the terms of the sale of a home and sign a purchase-and-sale agreement, but do not close on the purchase.

MAR’s measures of market and price confidence were down in February. But Realtors “continue to keep (them) in the positive range despite slim pickings in terms of home selection,” MAR President Corinne Fitzgerald said in a statement. “Not enough homes for sale prolongs the buyer’s home search and can certainly impact the Market Confidence Index.”
