Producer prices slipped in February

The Producer Price Index (PPI), which measures the movement of prices for finished goods at the wholesale level, fell 0.5 percent in February, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported Friday.

The decrease followed a 0.8–percent decline in January and a 0.2-percent decline in December.

The measures were seasonally adjusted.

The index known as “core PPI,” which excludes numbers from the food and energy sectors, also fell 0.5 percent in February.

Analysts had expected both figures to rise, PPI by 0.3 percent and core PPI by 0.1 percent, according to Yahoo Finance.
