Mass. business confidence continues to climb
Confidence among Massachusetts business owners climbed in March to a level not seen since 2005, according to the Associated Industries of Massachusetts (AIM).
AIM's monthly Business Confidence Index recorded a 60.2 on a 100-point scale (50 is neutral). This marks a 0.4-point increase from November and 9.1 points above the March 2014 reading, according to AIM.
"We have had a 10-point gain over the past 13 months as employers shed much of their post-recession caution, bringing increased job creation and business investment here in Massachusetts,” Raymond G. Torto, chairman of AIM's board of economic advisors (BEA), said in a statement. “The slowdown apparent in the most recent employment report clearly is not perceived as a significant threat to growth.”
Torto added that Massachusetts business confidence, importantly, is growing at a steady, sustainable pace.
AIM's U.S. Index of business conditions rose 0.2 points in March to 55.5, while the Massachusetts Index jumped a point to 60.8.
“These are pre (Great) Recession numbers,” Sara L. Johnson, BEA member. “The state indicator is at its highest level since December 2000, when we were near the peak of a lengthy expansion.”
