SnapChef founder snaps up SBA honor

Todd Snopkowski of Holden, founder and president of SnapChef Culinary Training and Staffing, has been named the 2015 Small Business Person of the Year for Massachusetts by the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA).

SnapChef, headquartered in the Dorchester section of Boston, has offices in Shrewsbury, South Boston and Cranston, R.I.

On its website, the company describes itself as a chef-owned and chef-operated company that provides both temporary and permanent culinary staff to food-service providers in New England. Its clients include universities, hospitals, five-star hotels and corporate cafeterias.

The SBA announced the award winners from all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, Guam and the U.S. Virgin Islands on Thursday. A national winner and two runners-up will be selected, then recognized at an event May 8 in Washington. Snopkowski will be recognized for winning the Massachusetts competition on May 4 at the Sheraton Framingham.

“Small businesses created nearly 2 million of the roughly 3 million private-sector jobs generated in 2014,” Maria Contreras-Sweet, head of the SBA, said in the statement. She said this year’s competition was “extremely keen across the nation” for the awards.
