Gasoline prices jump 12 cents
Gasoline prices are continuing their wrong-way turn in Massachusetts. AAA Northeast’s survey of prices Monday found that prices rose last week 12 cents per gallon on average from the previous week.
With self-serve, regular unleaded averaging $2.46 per gallon, gasoline was at its highest point thus far in 2015 in Massachusetts, AAA said.
The current price, $2.46, is the same as the national average for self-serve unleaded.
However, the price is substantially lower than it was a year ago, During this week in April 2014, he average Massachusetts price was $3.60 a gallon, $1.14 higher than now.
“Hikes in the price of crude oil over the past week are driving this latest surge at the pump,” Mary Maguire, director of public and legislative affairs for AAA Northeast, said. “We also saw rising prices at this time last year, with the switch over to summer blends of gasoline and the added cost of refining those blends.”
Shopping around can pay off, AAA said. The range in prices in the latest AAA survey for unleaded regular is 32 cents, from a low of $2.24 to a high of $2.56.
