Gas prices up another 11 cents

A rebound in crude oil pushed the price of gasoline up nearly 11 cents on average in the past week in Central Massachusetts, according to gasoline price website GasBuddy.com.

The average price for a gallon of gasoline was $2.53, just a penny below the national average, GasBuddy said. GasBuddy said prices have risen nearly 23 cents over the last month locally, about twice the national rise during the same span. But compared with a year ago, prices are still nearly $1.17 lower per gallon.

The Worcester average was based on a daily survey of 263 gas outlets.

Patrick DeHaan, a petroleum analyst with GasBuddy, blamed a rebound in the price of crude oil for last week’s price jump, although the West Coast is seeing bigger increases because of problems at refineries.
