Pending home sales rise 30% in April

The number of single-family homes placed under agreement last month was up 30 percent over April 2014, the Massachusetts Association of Realtors (MAR) reported Tuesday.

It was the 25th time in 26 months that MAR reported year-over-year increases. The number of condominiums put under agreement also rose, by 24.5 percent.

In addition, the organization’s forecast for future sales showed that the Realtor confidence in the health of the market and prices were both positive, and higher than in April 2014.

“As far as buyers were concerned, the winter officially ended in April as the high number of accepted offers pushed the spring market up to full speed very quickly,” MAR President Corinne Fitzgerald said in a statement.

She added that low inventory and multiple offers have continued to push prices up. MAR reported that the median single-family home price in Massachusetts this past April was $327,000. That was 2.4 percent higher than in $319,500.
