Framingham firm in research deal with N.C. company

Framingham-based life sciences company SCIEX has collaborated with a North Carolina company to enhance research into cardiovascular disease, diabetes and neurodegenerative disorders, according to a statement from SCIEX.

The multi-year collaboration with Metabolon Inc., of Durham, N.C., will bring the Lipidyzer Platform to researchers, bringing together sample preparation kits, separation technologies, mass spectrometry, software and data analysis services, SCIEX said. This will help give actionable results, Aaron Hudson, the company’s senior director of academic and clinical research business, said in the statement, and allow researchers to share information using cloud-based tools.

“This is the first integrated scientific analyzer that’s dedicated to quantitative lipid profiling and it will play a crucial role in making next-generation lipidomics available to the broader scientific community,” he said.

(CORRECTION: The first paragraph of the original version incorrectly stated the intent of the collaboration between the two organizations.)
