Grossman in running for MBTA retirement board post

Former treasurer Steve Grossman is being considered by the Baker administration for an appointment to the MBTA Retirement board, an official in the governor's office confirmed Monday.

After one term as state treasurer, Grossman lost his bid for the Democratic nomination for governor in 2014 before endorsing the party's nominee Martha Coakley. The Boston Globe first reported on Monday afternoon that Grossman was a leading candidate on a list of possible gubernatorial appointments to the retirement board, which controls over $1.5 billion in pension funds for MBTA workers and has drawn scrutiny for a lack of transparency around its investments and finances.

Grossman in March started a new position as CEO of the Initiative for a Competitive Inner City, a Boston-based nonprofit.
