Worcester retailer takes over Sharks Pro Shop space in DCU Center

The DCU Center retail space on Commercial Street formerly used as the pro shop of the Worcester Sharks will soon house Worcester Wares, a sell of “all things Worcester,” according to the DCU Center.

Worcester Wares, owned and operated by Jessica Walsh, will offer unique Worcester-themed items and apparel designed and hand made in Worcester. Retail offerings will include t-shirts, magnets, postcards and bags. Walsh said she was looking forward to having a physical location and including products from Worcester artists. Hours for the retail store will be announced at a later date.

Christina Andreoli, vice president of the Worcester Regional Chamber of Commerce and executive director of Destination Worcester, said the store will add positively to the transformation of downtown Worcester.

“There’s a real market for Worcester items. We get regular calls from parents of college students, visitors, and others looking for Worcester-centric merchandise,” she said. “We’re thrilled that chamber member, Worcester Wares was selected for this retail venture. Her eclectic offerings combined with a great location will be a terrific addition to this transforming neighborhood.”

The space was left open following the final season of Worcester Sharks hockey at the DCU Center this year. It was announced by the American Hockey League in January that the Sharks, an affiliate of the San Jose Sharks of the National Hockey League, are leaving to become part of a new Pacific division, along with four other AHL franchises. The decision allowed for a closer connection between the minor league team and its major league affiliate, Jon Gustafson, vice president of Sharks Minor Holdings LLC., said at the time of the announcement.
