Shopping malls add electric-vehicle chargers

Solomon Pond Mall in Marlborough and the Auburn Mall are among 12 shopping sites in Massachusetts and New Hampshire that have added charging stations for drivers of electric vehicles, the malls’ owner said.

Simon Malls and NRG EVgo, a subsidiary of NRG Energy, announced the installation of Freedom Station sites that can recharge shoppers’ vehicles in 30 minutes or less at the 12 malls.

The other Simon malls in Massachusetts with Freedom Station sites are: Burlington Mall,  Cape Cod Mall in Hyannis, Copley Place in Boston, Emerald Square Mall in North Attleborough, The Mall at Chestnut Hill, Northshore Mall in Peabody, South Shore Plaza in Braintree and Square One Mall in Saugus.

Two malls in New Hampshire – The Mall at Rockingham Park in Salem, and Pheasant Lane Mall in Nashua – also have them.

"Simon is committed to providing sustainable amenities for our customers,” said Mona Benisi, senior director of sustainability for Simon.
