Sunrun to bring 100 jobs to Marlborough

The residential solar company Sunrun, based in San Francisco, has announced that it will open a new branch office in Marlborough, bringing more than 100 jobs to the area.

Sunrun entered the Massachusetts market in 2009 using certified partners. The company will nearly double its local workforce, adding a variety of permanent job positions, including home solar project managers and electricians.

“As a community dedicated to finding innovative ways to reduce our environmental impact, we are pleased to welcome Sunrun to Marlborough,” Marlborough Mayor Arthur Vigeant said at a ribbon cutting Tuesday. “By coming to Marlborough, Sunrun will bring new job opportunities for Marlborough residents and provide residents with a local option for going solar.”

Sunrun introduced solar as a service in 2007 – a method to allow homeowners to go solar without significant upfront investment, according to the company. The company designs, installs, finances, insures, monitors and maintains the solar panels on a homeowner's roof, while families pay for the electricity at a lower rate than they pay their current utility, according to Sunrun.
