Report: July’s average power price remained low

ISO New England said prices for natural gas and electricity remained low in July, after record-setting lows in June.

The organization reported Tuesday that July’s average power price of $25.40 per megawatt-hour was the third-lowest monthly level in 12 years. The price about 30 percent higher than June’s average price of $19.61 per megawatt-hour, which was the lowest monthly price in 12 years.

Warmer weather in July drove up air conditioning use, the organization said, and the month’s total power usage was almost 20 percent higher than during June. The average price of natural gas during July was almost 17 percent higher than the June price. Still, the average monthly natural gas price for the region was 37 percent lower in July than the average price during July 2014, ISO New England said.
