Hyundai Hope on Wheels has awarded the University of Massachusetts Medical School a $250,000 grant to fund childhood cancer research.

The research, led by Lucio Castilla, will study the clonal sensitivity of pediatric acute myeloid leukemia (AML) blast cells to targeted therapies.

The grant is part of $10.5 million the organization is awarding to 45 pediatric cancer research projects throughout September in honor of National Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. The funds will be officially awarded at the medical school at 3 p.m. Friday during a Hope On Wheels handprint ceremony, at which the handprints of Worcester-area children affected by cancer will be captured on a white Hyundai Tucson.
