FLEXcon creates car-tough adhesive for Conn. label maker

Spencer-based FLEXcon announced Tuesday that it has collaborated with Ellington, Conn.-based Action Packaging Systems to create a label resilient enough for oil filter container caps.

“Recent advancements in the design of automobiles have made it more difficult for consumers and mechanics to reach oil filter containers for oil changes and regular maintenance,” the statement from FLEXcon said. “Innovative companies have introduced textured oil filter container caps, which allow mechanics or at-home car enthusiasts to unscrew the cap by hand, eliminating the need to use a wrench.”

Those textured caps need an identifying label able to withstand extreme conditions including oil, water, grease and weather. Action Packaging Systems, which is in the label printing industry, asked FLEXcon to create the adhesive for the labels.

“We turned to FLEXcon for this project as they have been a longtime partner of Action Packaging Systems and are one of the most innovative companies for advanced solutions,” said Douglas Rice, president of Action Packaging Systems. “This project took a lot of lab work as the FLEXcon technicians had to test and combine existing products to develop a solution that can withstand extreme elements and meet all safety regulations.”

FLEXcon created a polyester label stock coated with a high-performance adhesive.
