Cumberland CEO a panelist at White House worker summit
Ari Haseotes, president and CEO of Framingham-based Cumberland Farms, participated in a White House panel discussion about employer strategy for managing workers.
Haseotes was selected by the Obama Administration, which was seeking participation from “an employer who has taken great lengths to listen to their employees and learn what really matters to them,” according to a White House official.
The discussion took place during the White House Summit on Worker Voice, an event with heavy representation for labor groups aimed at addressing workplace issues that affect the middle class.
The convenience-store chain has been widely recognized for its approach to offering healthcare benefits to employees. In October 2013, the company reclassified 1,500 formerly part-time employees as full-time. The move qualified the employees for health benefits, ahead of the January 2014 Affordable Care Act employer mandate requiring companies to provide coverage to employees who work 30 or more hours per week.
Haseotes was expected to discuss the company’s progressive compensation models and communication platforms aimed at driving retention and employee satisfaction on Wednesday, according to Cumberland Farms.
“We are so incredibly proud and honored that our efforts and our values are being recognized by the White House, and I'm looking forward to sharing our perspectives at Wednesday's event,” Haseotes said in a statement.
