$29,000 grant to support Holy Cross service group

Working for Worcester – a group founded by students at the College of the Holy Cross in 2012 to make improvements around the city – has won a $29,000 grant from The Health Foundation of Central Massachusetts to help the organization upgrade and expand.

A statement from Holy Cross Thursday said the money will help Working for Worcester begin building an internal technological infrastructure and to establish other campus chapters at Worcester area colleges.

Holy Cross said the group, now led by seniors Brendan Healey and Molly Hourigan, has helped to reinvest more than $300,000 into 50 project sites in Worcester, including the first playground at Elm Park Community School.

The group's annual service day will be held April 16, 2016, during which more than 1,000 volunteers are expected to help create and renovate recreation and wellness spaces across the city, the statement said.
