Marlborough Savings Bank offers $20K training program

Founded in early April way back in 1860, Marlborough Savings Bank has always remained committed to its customers and its employees.

Today, with a client base including a wide array of retail and small business customers, the bank has six locations within Middlesex and Worcester counties, with a seventh branch slated to open in Hudson next year.

An ongoing training program for sales and leadership, as well as department orientations, enable employees to gain a better understanding of what the various departments are working on. Further, employees complete an annual career development review and receive tailored training programs to address their individual needs.

“We all work better when we work as a team,” Driscoll said. “These programs offer us the opportunity to recognize and support one another – which results in an atmosphere of trust and respect. We want the best for ourselves, our customers and our co-workers.”

The bank's tuition reimbursement program for employees offers $2,000 to $4,000 annually. For those employees whose tailored training programs include executive leadership training, Marlborough Savings Bank offers an expenses-paid-in-full option for the industry's $20,000 Stonier Banking Program, a Washington, D.C.-based institution.

Dorian said the bank will continue to seek out the right employees and grow the business, with the hope of seeing Marlborough Savings Bank around for another 155 years.

Beyond the standard fare including medical, dental, life and disability insurance, the bank offers flexible work schedules, 401(k) or other retirement savings plans (with company match), discounted gym memberships, wellness workshops, long-term care insurance, flexible spending accounts, health reimbursement accounts and stop-smoking programs.

The wellness committee holds contests, inter-bank competitions and lunches that discuss healthy eating, mental wellness and alternative medicine.

In addition to a bright idea program rewarding employees for suggesting or implementing efficiency improvements, the bank's “Win” program recognizes employees who go above and beyond in sales and/or customer service. The program culminates in quarterly “Hoopla” parties for all employees.

“It is an opportunity for us to connect with co-workers we usually just speak to over the phone, or new employees we have yet to meet,” said Donna Driscoll, a branch manager. “It engenders real team spirit.”
