Tim Garvin, CEO of the United Way of Central Massachusetts, won the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Massachusetts Nonprofit Network, at its annual conference. He was honored for his "thoughtful approach to philanthropy" in forging partnerships between nonprofits, government and communities, according to the organization's website.

Finalists have been selected for the Better Business Bureau of Central New England Central MA Torch Awards. They are Christina's Home Child Care in West Boylston; Computer Central in Holden; Eagle Cleaning in Worcester; Golden Group Construction in Worcester; Greendale Physical Therapy in Shrewsbury; Hampton Properties in Worcester; inConcert Web Solutions in Gardner; New Horizon Karate in West Boylston; and Southgate at Shrewsbury. A winner will be chosen Nov. 10.

Joffrey A. Smith of Joffrey Smith Financial Group of Worcester has been authorized as a certified financial planner. Smith was the youngest-ever elected member of the Worcester City Council at age 24, where he represented District 1 from 2006 to 2012.

SeaChange International Inc. in Acton won the Technology Services Industry Association STAR Award for Best Practices in the Delivery of Customer Success & Support, SMB Level. The company provides multi-screen video products and services.

Susan Landau, professor of cybersecurity policy at Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI), was inducted into the National Cyber Security Hall of Fame on Oct. 29. Landau joined the WPI faculty in 2014, after serving as senior staff privacy analyst at Google.

TJX Cos. of Framingham, led by Carol Meyrowitz, was one of the top 10 honorees in the Top 100 Women-Led Businesses in Massachusetts, as selected by The Boston Globe Magazine and The Commonwealth Institute.

Susan Franklin and Donna McCullen — both employees of Workers' Credit Union in Fitchburg — were honored as Community Heroes by Banker & Tradesman, two of 10 in the state to get this recognition. Franklin is an online marketing manager, and McCullen is Lancaster branch manager.

Baesis Inc. of Northborough, a software reseller, was recognized by Sage North America as one of the top 10-percent business partners in North America and fastest-growing Sage 100 reseller in the Northeast.

Law firm Seder & Chandler of Worcester and Orchard Hills Athletic Club in Lancaster were inducted into the SHINE Hall of Fame for their support. Leominster nonprofit SHINE Initiative works to get mental illness in children and teens recognized as a mainstream health issue.
