Physician group affiliate opens Worcester urgent care site

Urgent care provider AFC Doctors Express cut the ribbon at its first Worcester site.

AFC Doctors Express, the urgent care services company that is partnering with the Central Massachusetts Independent Physicians Association (CMIPA) to provide urgent care to its patients, celebrated the opening of its first Worcester location on Stafford Street Wednesday evening.

The new clinic is at 117a Stafford St., and will open for business on Nov. 17, according to AFC Doctors Express.

A partnership with the CMIPA, which represents 170 independent doctors in Central Massachusetts, was announced earlier this year. The partnership is similar to the one between UMass Memorial Health Care and CareWell Urgent Care, which recently opened two sites in the city. CMIPA will refer patients to the AFC Doctors Express site for non-emergency treatment both during regular hours and when primary and specialty care offices are closed. AFC Doctors Express will also share patient data with CMIPA primary and specialty care doctors to ensure appropriate follow-up care.

CMIPA CEO Gail Sillman called it a “mutually beneficial partnership” that honors her organizations’ patient relationships.

AFC Doctors Express operates several urgent care facilities throughout Massachusetts, and more than 150 clinics across the country. Medvest LLC is the master developer of sites in Massachusettts, Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont. Sites in Marlborough and Natick have also opened in the last few years.

Other full-service urgent care providers in Greater Worcester include Quincy-based CareWell and ReadyMED, which is Worcester-based Reliant Medical Group’s urgent care business.
