Mevion to install three systems at LA hospital

Courtesy Mevion Medical Systems said it will build a three-room installation at a hospital just outside Los Angeles. It's the company's largest sale to date. A Mevion system is shown here.

Mevion Medical Systems of Littleton, which makes proton therapy systems for use in radiation therapy for cancer patients, will build a three-room proton therapy system at Beverly Hospital in Montebello, Calif., which is just outside of Los Angeles.

The Beverly Hospital installation will take place in phases, with the first of three rooms treating cancer patients to be installed in late 2017, according to Mevion.

The project represents the largest sale in the company’s history, according to Mevion spokesman Tom Langford. Each Mevion Proton Therapy System sells for $25 million each.

The Beverly Hospital installation is the third system purchase Mevion announced in the last six weeks.
