Baker to deliver UMass Medical commencement address

Gov. Charlie Baker will deliver the 43rd commencement address at UMass Medical School this June in Worcester, the school announced Friday.
Since taking office in January, Baker has launched a number of health initiatives, including calling on UMass to work with three other Massachusetts medical schools in defining core competencies for graduates that will prepare them to screen, prevent and manage prescription drug misuse among patients, especially those dealing with addiction to opioids.
Baker's address comes as UMass is expanding its footprint throughout Massachusetts, including setting up a regional campus in Springfield, increasing its class size from 125 to 150 to accommodate its first out-of-state students, and allowing students to complete clinical rotations at Cape Cod Hospital.
The commencement will start at 11 a.m. June 5 on the UMass campus green in Worcester.
