VA to cut ribbon at new Worcester clinic

The VA Central Western Massachusetts Healthcare System and the University of Massachusetts Medical School will celebrate the opening of a new VA specialty care clinic on the UMass Medical School campus Thursday.

The clinic, known as the VA annex, will begin providing high-demand services to veterans early this year, according to the VA, including podiatry, optometry and audiology. Audiology is a new service provided to Worcester-area veterans, so they won't have to travel to other VA New England facilities.

U.S. Rep. James McGovern, UMass Medical School Chancellor Michael F. Collins and John P. Colling, director of the VA Central Western Massachusetts Healthcare System, will attend the event, according to a statement. All three have pledged to continue developing the relationship between the medical school and the VA to expand veterans’ health services in Worcester County.

Thursday’s ribbon-cutting ceremony will take place at 3:30 p.m. at 377 Plantation St. in Worcester.
