Quinsigamond Community College opened the latest addition to its campus on Wednesday -- a new center set to expand the school’s offerings in the fields of science and technology.

The Quinsigamond Engineering, Science, and Technology (QuEST) Center was unveiled at a ceremony Tuesday and welcomed students on the college’s first day of class on Wednesday. The center provides students with state-of-the-art labs and facilities ranging from industrial robotics to pharmaceutical testing labs, according to a release from the school. The building houses a mechatronics lab, a combined electronics and energy utility technology lab, a design studio and the college’s first fabrication lab.

The 30,000-square-foot engineering and technology building was built using a $23 million state bond, as well as a $500,000 grant from the Massachusetts Life Sciences Center, which will be used to furnish and equip specialized space in the center.
