Harrington Healthcare to open Oxford urgent care center

The Harrington Healthcare System will open its second urgent care clinic in Oxford this summer, following the growing demand for the centers that bridge the gap between primary physicians and emergency rooms.

Urgent care centers are designed to treat patients whose primary care physicians are not available, and patients with non-life-threatening conditions that require same-day treatment, according to Harrington Healthcare.

“Our new site in Oxford will give patients in the community greater access to care seven days per week, including after-hours and on the weekends,” said Kristin Morales-Lemieux, executive director of Harrington Physician Services.

Harrington Healthcare opened an urgent care location in September inside the Harrington HealthCare at a Charlton medical office building at 10 North Main St. That site has exceeded patient projections, pointing to a larger need within the community, according to Harrington Healthcare. The new Oxford site will follow the Charlton model, including being staffed by board-certified physicians.

The Town of Oxford Planning Board approved plans to build the urgent care center at its meeting on Monday. Construction will create approximately eleven exam rooms, in addition to X-ray and lab services.

Harrington currently has emergency departments at its main campus in Southbridge and at the Remillard Family Emergency Department in Webster.
