The maker of Honeywell portable heaters has released its list of coziest cities in the United States, with Asheville, N.C. just edging out Boston to take the top honor.

The study by Kaz, A Helen of Troy Company, examined the prevalence of specialty grocery stores, coffee shops, bookstores and bakeries while taking into account average winter temperatures and annual average snowfall. Just enough snow to warrant curling up indoors but not enough to be overwhelming was deemed ideal for a cozy city. So while Boston receives large amounts of snow, its quaint, winding streets go a long way to creating an overall “cozy” feel, according to Kaz.

The top ten coziest cities were:

  1. Asheville, N.C.
  2. Boston, Mass.
  3. Salinas, Calif.
  4. Portland, Ore.
  5. Portland, Maine
  6. Santa Rosa, Calif.
  7. Providence, R.I.
  8. Spokane, Wash.
  9. Provo, Utah
  10. Chattanooga, Tenn.
