NEC Energy Solutions has provided a large-scale energy storage system that will help make better use of the energy generated by a large solar-powered plant in Japan.

The energy storage system from the company with its headquarters in Westborough has a capacity of 1.2MWh and output of 500kW. It will operate in conjunction with a large PV solar power plant established by COLON Company Limited in the Kagoshima Prefecture of Japan. According to a release from NEC, typically the power generated from these plants varies depending on the amount of sunlight, but an energy storage system allows surplus energy to be stored, thus delivering constant energy levels.

According to Bud Collins, CEO of NEC Energy Solutions, the company has installed 120MWh worth of these systems to over 19 sites across 11 countries.

NEC did not disclose the price of the system.
