Lakeway Commons groundbreaking set for June

Courtesy of Grossman Development Group Lakeway Commons, a retail development proposed for the old Spag's site in Shrewsbury is slated for construction beginning this year.

The groundbreaking fanfare marking the official beginning of construction at the Lakeway Commons site that will host a Whole Foods, offices and housing in Shrewsbury at the former site of Spag's retail store will take place in June.

The groundbreaking set for June 7 will include several dignitaries, including Lt. Gov. Karyn Polito, according to a representative from Lakeway Commons. The groundbreaking kicks off the building of a 375,000-square-foot mixed-use development that will be made up of 100,000 square feet of retail, 250 apartments, 14 town homes and anchored by a 50,000-square-foot Whole Foods. The demolition and site work is expected to take approximately four to six weeks.

Grossman Development Group secured four new leases in March with the signing of Visionworks, Sweet Pizza, Unibank and Jenny Boston.
