Where in Central Mass. do the millionaires live?

As the Massachusetts legislature debates the proposed millionaires tax, information on the number of millionaires in Central Massachusetts has been released and they might not be located where you expected.
While Worcester had far more millionaires (47 or .26 millionaires per 1,000 residents) than most Central Massachusetts communities, the data from 2013 released by the legislature’s Revenue Committee showed that it is not where the most millionaires in the region call home.
That honor goes to Sudbury with 214 millionaires, or 11.94 millionaires per 1,000 people in the community. Other MetroWest communities rounded out the list with Hopkinton taking second honors with 109 millionaires, Southborough with 93, Natick with 91, Shrewsbury housing 57, Framingham having 53 and Westborough with 49. While Marlborough has increasingly become a hub for businesses, it did not draw in as many millionaires, with only 15 living in the city, according to the 2013 data.
In North Central Massachusetts, Leominster takes the top honor for number of millionaires at 12 with Fitchburg coming in second with 4 and Gardner having 3.
All of these communities are dwarfed by the number of millionaires living in Boston at 1,617. However, once the city’s population is taken into account, the numbers are not as impressive with millionaires only representing 2.57 people per 1,000 residents. That ratio is far outstripped by towns such as Sudbury and Hopkinton.
The number of millionaires in communities has become a point of interest as the legislature debates a proposed constitutional amendment that would add a 4 percent surtax on incomes above $1 million.
