Worcester zoning board of appeals approves dialysis clinic

The Worcester Zoning Board of Appeals on Monday night unanimously approved a request for a special permit for the operation of a dialysis clinic.

Genesis KC Development LLC, which does business as DaVita HealthCare Partners, received a permit to operate a clinic at 267 Shrewsbury St., a 12,000-square-foot building that has long been vacant.

The new clinic will provide jobs for approximately 15 full-time staff members, said Stephen Rolle, director of planning and regulatory services for the city of Worcester. A new parking lot with 16 spaces will be built in the back of the building, facing Nebraska Street. The clinic will be open from 5:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the beginning, with the potential to eventually extend closing time to 9:30 p.m.

This will be the second clinic in Worcester for DaVita. The company operates a clinic at 19 Glennie St. A special permit was necessary because the building was zoned as a manufacturing space.
