Assumption secures $1M grant for new building

Assumption College announced Monday that it has secured a $1 million grant from the George I. Alden Trust of Worcester towards the college’s new academic building that will house the business studies department.

The College hosted a ceremonial groundbreaking on the new academic building in early April. The 60,000-square-foot building will contain 13 high-tech, flexible classrooms of varying sizes, seminar rooms, common study spaces, a 400-seat performance hall, a rehearsal room, a multi-purpose space, and faculty offices, according to Assumption.

The decision was made by the trust to make the large donation due to the “pivotal role” the new facility will play in the education of Assumption’s students.

Plans for the building -- which is under construction in the area between Hagan Hall, the Information Technology Building/Fuller Hall and Switzer Building -- were approved by the College’s Board of Trustees at its February meeting. The targeted date of completion for the new building is fall of 2017.
