Downtown Worcester food truck zone proposed

SAM BONACCI

Worcester City Manager Edward Augustus has proposed a new food truck zone be made at Mercantile Center downtown.

"The city has already experienced an influx of food truck activity as a result of revisiting the regulatory environment. We look forward to the additional benefits resulting from this ordinance, especially as it relates to place-making efforts and quality of life for our residents, workers and visitors,” Augustus wrote in a letter to the City Council.

The recommended zone in downtown Worcester would be the second area recommended for food trucks since the City Council gave Augustus the authority to designate Food Truck Friendly Zones this spring. The other zone would be by the Worcester Memorial Auditorium. A neighborhood meeting will be held June 29 to discuss the Mercantile Center zone.

The Mercantile Plaza was recently purchased by Franklin Realty Advisors and has been undergoing renovations.
