Fitness company eyes MetroWest for Mass. launch

Blink Fitness courtesy Blink Fitness combines luxury and a low price point.

Blink Fitness, a New York City-based gym chain, is ready to move into Massachusetts, with its sights set on the MetroWest region.

The company has its sights set on the suburban MetroWest communuty, including towns such as Natick, Framingham and Westborough. According to Blink Fitness President Todd Magazine, although it started in New York City, the company’s model of an upscale gym at a lower price resonates in these types of communities.

“It fits our model very well, because particularly in markets like that … as you get further and further away from the core city there are fewer and fewer options,” he said.

Magazine explained that the company is looking to set up franchises in the area following a fine-tuning that has taken place at multiple company-owned locations. The model that the company has developed is luxury fitness for anyone at an affordable price of $10 to $20 per membership, he said. Magazine equated it to a comparison between Target and Walmart, which deliver much the same product at a similar price point, but in very different ways.
