Cogmedix to manufacture hospital disinfection system

Worcester-based Cogmedix will manufacture a disinfecting system from Medizone International, Inc. that has been shown to reduce hospital-associated infections.

AsepticSure devices manufactured by Cogmedix are aimed at meeting the growing demand for better disinfection in hospital rooms, according to a joint release from the companies. AsepticSure also has been proven to dramatically reduce new hospital-associated infection rates, according to Cogmedix.

"We're convinced Cogmedix will enable us to meet significant increases in product demand as we enter the U.S. market and also serve manufacturing requirements for international markets as AsepticSure puts an end to environmentally caused hospital-acquired infection worldwide," Edwin Marshall, Medizone chairman and CEO, said in a statement.

Cogmedix said in the joint release that AsepticSure is the only hospital disinfection system that can guarantee a kill of infective pathogens, both bacterial and viral, throughout an entire room.

Cogmedix, which relocated to Worcester in 2015 to facilities more than twice the size of its former location due to rapid growth, is a specialized FDA engineering and contract manufacturer of finished laser and optically-based medical imaging devices. Medizone provides patented low dose ozone based disinfection systems to hospital isolation rooms, surgical suites, emergency rooms, and intensive care units, gym locker rooms, laboratories, and veterinary clinics.

Cogmedix is a wholly owned subsidiary of Westborough-based Coghlin Companies Inc. Medizone was founded in New York in 1986 and is now based in Sausalito, California.
