Fire rips through Worcester business

A three alarm fire tore through Dario Diesel on Route 20 in Worcester Monday night, prompting firefighters to fight through noxious fumes to put out the blaze.

The cause of the fire, which began at 7:30 p.m. is still under investigation by the Worcester Fire Department and the State Fire Marshal’s Office, according to WFD’s Deputy Chief of Operations John Sullivan. The fire at the dealer of heavy duty trucks such as semi-trucks and tow-trucks posed a hazard to firefighters at the scene as the dealership’s inventory of rubber tires, parts and oils burned.

“It’s nothing we don’t anticipate, it’s just there’s a large quantity of that in a business like that,” Sullivan said.

Compounding the difficulty of fighting the fire was the business’ location at the edge of the city’s water supply, he said.
