Ameresco biogas Arizona facility to earn $1.2M annually
Ameresco, Inc. announced Monday a new wastewater treatment biogas project to be built at a facility owned by five Arizona cities, including Phoenix and Scottsdale.
The Framingham energy efficiency company said it will design, build, operate, own and maintain a biogas-to-energy facility at the 91st Ave. Wastewater Treatment Plant in Phoenix, which is Arizona’s largest wastewater treatment plant, according to the city. The Ameresco project, expected to be up and running by the end of next year, will process raw biogas into renewable natural gas that can then be sold for profit.
The idea is to turn previously wasted biogas into revenue, Phoenix Mayor Greg Stanton said in a statement. The project is estimated to produce $1.2 million in annual revenue, 50 percent of which will go directly to the city of Phoenix, according to an email from Stephanie Bracken, public information officer at the City of Phoenix Water Services Department. The rest of the profits will be shared among the four other cities that own the treatment plant: Scottsdale, Glendale, Mesa, and Tempe.
Ameresco, which last week announced 7 percent year-over-year revenue growth in its second quarter, declined to disclose project costs on its end.
