Mass. unemployment rate dips to 4.1%

The state's unemployment rate dropped to 4.1 percent in July as estimates showed 7,300 Bay State jobs added last month, according to the Office of Labor and Workforce Development.

The estimate for June's job gains was also adjusted upward by 1,200, putting June's job gains at 17,600. June's unemployment rate was 4.2 percent.

The Massachusetts unemployment rate remains well below the national rate of 4.9 percent.

State leaders have emphasized training and education programs, saying employers have jobs available and are in search of talent. The jobless rate varies across the state.

The professional, scientific and business services sector was responsible for the bulk of June's jobs, adding 4,600. The manufacturing, information, education and health services, and "other services" sectors lost jobs in July.
